THAILAND MEETS AMERICA

TPO welcomes back Thai classical guitar virtuoso Ekachai Jearakul for a performance of Thai composer and US resident Narong Prangcharoen’s Guitar Concerto, led by American conductor Jeffery Meyer. The program also includes Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, and the cheerful, pastoral sound of Brahms’ Symphony No. 2.

Chief Conductor Gudni A. Emilsson will lead TPO in Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 6. Written during the happiest periods of Mahler’s life, this work is nonetheless titled “Tragic”. Also featured is Italian clarinetist Giampiero Sobrino performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major.

ACADEMY OF ANCIENT MUSIC

Prince Mahidol Hall and the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra are honored to present a performance by The Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) – the world’s foremost period-instrument orchestra based in Cambridge, England. Founded by harpsichordist Christopher Hogwood in 1973, it was named after a previous organization of the same name of the 18th century. The musicians play on either original instruments or modern copies of instruments from the period of time the music was composed. AAM Music Director Richard Egarr leads this performance of Baroque masterworks and is joined by mezzo soprano Vivica Genaux.

BERLIN PHILHARMONIC WINDS

To cultivate the tradition of classical wind music – that is the aim of the Berlin Philharmonic Winds, formed in 2001 on the initiative of the clarinetist Walter Seyfarth and then principal clarinet Karl-Heinz Steffens. Prince Mahidol Hall and the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra are honored to welcome the distinguished musicians from Berlin to perform what is sure to be a can’t miss program featuring works by Mozart and Krommer.

The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra is honored to have members of the Berlin Philharmonic joining for a side by side performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 7, the “Song of the Night”. American guest conductor Delta David Gier will lead this once-in-a-lifetime musical event! Featured soloist for this program is Belgium jazz and classical pianist and composer Jef Neve, who will perform his own Piano Concerto No. 2. This program has the generous support of the Belgium Embassy.
